Making Technical Presentations

1 min read

I have been working on my dissertation presentation, and have been listening to various other dissertation (and general tech) presentations.

I have gathered three key observations on making an impactful technical presentation:

  1. Front the problem: bring listeners through a real and relatable story to setup the existing world and what is so flawed with it
  2. Tell a story: after fronting the problem, continue to use it as a way to build towards the technical solution
  3. Animate what can be told: rather than just speaking with bullet points, include live visuals that guide the audience through the explanation

This is certainly not comprehensive, but I just wanted to pen down what I felt were key differentiators in delivering technical presentations.
